Bloomington has the charm of a small town with the activities, entertainment, diversity, and opportunities of a larger city. The city is actively recruiting remote workers, and the tech community is active and growing. Residents enjoy farmer’s markets, local bakeries, wineries, breweries, and cideries, and a wide variety of ethnic restaurants. Indiana University hosts a world-class opera theatre, touring Broadway shows, Big Ten athletic events, famous lecture series, and year-round music performances. Bloomington is home to the internationally-known world music festival Lotus Fest, the Limestone Comedy Festival, and the iconic Little 500 IU bicycle race. The public park system (including the new Switchyard Park) and network of biking trails brings nature to every part of the city. If you enjoy contra-dancing, choral singing, hackerspaces, bird-watching, running, hiking, kickball, ultimate Frisbee, symphonic band, glass-blowing, bike building, dog parks, or book sales - then there is a club or organization for you in town!

The area also includes three lakes, two state forests, and three nearby state parks, including the popular Brown County State Park and art colonies in nearby Nashville, IN. A fifteen-minute drive will get you to Lake Monroe or deep into the Charles C. Deam Wilderness. Comprehensive healthcare options are available, with a brand new teaching hospital completed in 2021. The population is estimated to be 85,755 (as of 2019).
